No-Fly Zone
Alas, my application for a work visa has been rejected on the grounds of "protecting local interest." Essentially the Immigration Department is supposed to make sure foreigners aren't picked for jobs over locals. It is interesting to note, however, that my job (and 8 other positions just like it) have been advertised in local papers for about two years now, without a single word of interest from any Caymanian. Instead of appealing the decision on the temporary permit, we're switching over to a year-long permit and submitting as much proof as we can that no one really wants the job. This means I won't be going to the Caymans this summer and will instead wait until this October to start work. In the meantime, I'll be hunting for jobs and things to do in the Monterey area to keep me occupied.
Waaaaaaait for it....
The more astute (and persistent) of my readers may have noticed that I have not posted in a while. Well, there have been some delays in getting my work visa for the Caymans. I am currently still in Monterey, but my current plans have me leaving tomorrow and arriving in Grand Cayman on Wednesday. Accordingly, a revamp of this website is on its way in an effort to make it more Cayman-esque and less Moorea-ey. Either way, regular posts should be starting up again in the next couple of days, so keep your eyes open.
Until then...
